Planning for next year’s cheer season to me is like two of the amazing songs from Frozen II - “Into the Unknown” and “Do the Next Right Thing.”
I never imagined making plans for my cheer team and wondering if we would even be cheering at football games! Will there even be competitions? Will there be football? Will we be cheering? Will we be able to stunt? Will there be competitions? The hope is yes, but will any of it look the same?
I have been coaching for more than 25 years and during this pandemic, I have had so many days of being at a standstill. I still have not had my official tryouts. I still don’t know for sure if camp is happening. There are so many unknowns. The unknowns can cause confusion and it can be paralyzing.
But, in the words of Olaf and the beautiful song Anna sang in Frozen II, I realized I need to “Do the Next Right Thing”. So, I had my interest meeting and I did all of my planning - one day at a time. I have two versions I have mapped out to my team and parents - our team back as we always are and a modified version of next year.
I have a resource and videos for you to plan for next year as if we will be back to a regular season. It is called Your Best Cheer Year Yet. You can sign up for it here. If you have already subscribed to Your Best Cheer Year Yet, take a look at your account because I have added a ton of videos!!! The videos will take you through each step in addition to the packet you already have.
I am going to be jumping into the CCA Cheer Coaches Forum on Facebook several times this week to help you then adapt for next year if we are going to have limitations due to COVID-19. If you have not joined it, please request access here and tell other coaches!
